  • 15th Annual Social Work Conference: Alcohol, Trauma, and Domestic Violence--An Overview

    September 8, 2015

    This conference is designed to enhance knowledge, skills, and professional growth for social workers, nurses, and allied health professionals.

    Registration is $75 per person. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services employees are invited to attend at no cost. Watch for a brochure in mid July.

  • Care in the Community: Focus on Fun--Everybody Needs a Break

    September 24, 2015

    The 12th annual Care in The Community Conference--being held at the Wauwatosa Radisson Hote--is sponsored by the Southeast Regional Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. This year’s title is "Focus on Fun, Everybody Needs a Break." We will explore recreational and inclusion services, as well as support services for children with special health care needs.

    This conference is open to families, physicians, social workers, teachers and others who care for children and youth with special health care needs. Social workers will receive 5.8 continuing education clock hours. In addition to recreational sessions, there will be a dynamic keynote address, panel discussions, and presentations by a number of experts. We will also have topics on professional coping and art and expressive therapy.

  • Administrative Professionals Conference

    October 13, 2015

    This year’s Administrative Professionals conference will be held Tuesday, October 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the MCW Alumni Center. Please save the date for this high energy event. Registration opens August 31.

    The conference is geared toward administrative, secretarial, clerical and support personnel. It is also open to other staff whose development interests match the topic.

  • HeartCode™ PALS Recognition (Certification)

    A self-paced, scenario-based online course (8-12 hours of pre-work on your own computer) and a three-hour skills check-off for PALS certification for health care providers who provide care to critically ill or unstable children. This course includes Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification.

    The non-refundable course fee is $175.

  • Diabetes Training for School Staff

    Training designed for nurses, school health care providers, and school staff involved in care of students with diabetes. Registration fee is $30.

  • Caring for a Child with Diabetes—Community Education

    This class is for siblings, grandparents, relatives, friends, babysitters, and anyone who cares for a child with diabetes. The class is also suitable for daycare workers. Registration fee is $10.   • Pediatric Tracheostomy Certification

    This class is for skilled nurses (RNs or LPNs) who are seeking certification in pediatric tracheostomy care. These classes will review reasons for a tracheostomy, tracheostomy care and stoma assessment, trach changes, and CPR and emergencies for children with tracheostomies.

    There will be a skills lab for suctioning and trach changing.

    The fee for this class is $100. Fees are non-refundable. This class does NOT include any ventilator education or certification. If you require vent certification, please register for one of our Caring for a Child on a Ventilator Certification courses.

  • Pediatric Vent Certification

    This is a two-part course for pediatric ventilator certification. It includes an online study course and a four-hour classroom skills checkoff.

    The online course takes from 3 to 10 hours to complete, but it does not need to be done all at once. It consists of self-paced learning lessons that include:

    • Information about the topic with details about key concepts.
    • A lecture and learning activities that apply concepts from the lecture.
    • A post test. You must complete and pass the test prior to classroom participation.

    The skills checkoff is a four-hour classroom session. It gives you hands-on experience with tracheostomy care and the ventilator. The class also works through case scenarios to reinforce information learned in the online course.

    NOTE: Do not register for this course if you have already purchased an online course from the UW-Madison School of Nursing. We will only schedule skills checkoff classes for individuals who purchase the online course from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (through www.maxishare.com).

    The registration fee is $175.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

  • Pediatric Vent Recertification

    Pediatric RECERTIFICATION is required every 2 years.This recertification course allows registrants to meet minimum skills and knowledge requirements to obtain Recertification to provide respiratory care services. As a prerequisite, registrants must have a current (unexpired) CERTIFICATION and meet the requirements for Respiratory Care Services as defined by the State of Wisconsin. Pre-registration is required. Registration fee is $100.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

  • The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Provider Course (Milwaukee Campus)

    November 9, 2015

    The S.T.A.B.L.E. program is an educational program that focuses exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of prematurely born or sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention, and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar and Safe Care, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support.

    Who should take S.T.A.B.L.E?

    Stabilization is a team effort! Therefore, any health caregiver involved with post-resuscitation and/or pre-transport care of sick newborns would benefit from the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Learner/Provider course, including:

    • Physicians: Pediatric, ER, family practice, and obstetric physicians including residents.
    • Nurses: RNs working in L&D, postpartum, nursery, emergency departments, Nurse midwives, Licensed practical nurses, and Nursing assistants.
    • Others: Respiratory therapists, Pre-hospital providers, and Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.
